TODAY'S FOOD FOR THE SOUL Matthew 1:1-17
TODAY'S RHEMA Matthew 1:17 "Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah."
God can use anyone! This is proven from a list of names we could see from the genealogy of Jesus Christ. Some are great people to start with but some of them are commoners and some are even "ineligible" people. Abraham who was old and weak, Jacob was a fraudster, Solomon had many wives who turned his heart away from God and worshiped idols. In the genealogy of Jesus Christ, we can also see some names of women which is uncommon in Jewish tradition. Tamar was a trickster who committed adultery with Judah, her own father in law. Rahab was a prostitute who lived in Jericho, Ruth was from a pagan country. The wife of Uriah, Bathsheba committed adultery with David, and Mary was an ordinary young lady and come from an ordinary family.
Regardless of weaknesses, shortcomings, and mistakes, they made, God still used their lives for His purpose. Their names are in the genealogy of the Messiah. The same thing goes for us. Despite our background, however bad our past might be, God will not disqualify us. His longing is to bless and make us become the head, not the tail.
As we think about the lives of those Bible characters in the genealogy of Jesus Christ, let us ponder on the message of Christmas this year. When you invite Jesus to come into your life, acknowledge your sins and repent, leave your old and sinful way of life, God will work in your life miraculously, He will promote you from an ordinary person into an extraordinary person in God. From a sinner to a faithful servant of God, from insignificant to someone who brings blessings to his society. This is the joy we will find in the promotion that comes from the Lord.
REFLECTION Saudara Terkasih, God chooses not the great but the insignificant and undeserved kind of people for His divine promotion.
APPLICATIONS 1. In your life, do you focus on the things on earth or above? 2. Why do you need to focus on the things above? 3. How can you begin to focus on the things above?
TODAY'S PRAYER "Jesus Christ, thank you, no matter what is going on in my life and how big my mistakes are, You are still with me and love me. Because of your love, I can live my life happily. God, I surrender my life to You, use me to show Your glory and power. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen."
