TODAY'S FOOD FOR THE SOUL
Luke 6: 30-38
TODAY'S RHEMA Luke 6:38a "Give, and it will be given to you."
Just like others, Ted wanted to have a house for his family. He went to a housing developer many times and assessed his budget. Ted and his wife's salaries were insufficient, they needed about 12 years to pay the installment. Ted realized that he must start saving more than what he had saved each month. Despite his financial concern, he wouldn't hesitate to help the needy nor contemplating in his tithing. One time, the priest challenged his congregation to give what was the most precious to them for church construction. With his wife's agreement, Ted gave their simple wedding rings as an offering. Sometimes later, came to him a good offer of a house he wanted all this time. The price was half of house in the market with low rate down payment. Ted was so grateful, his heart filled with joy and thankfulness. He then sold his motorbike to pay for the down payment and to purchase a second-hand motorbike for his transportation.
To the world eyes, giving means decreasing in what we have. Giving is the hardest thing to do when we are in a time of need. However, from the illustration above, we learn that God wants His children to unselfishly who are thinking about themselves.
The world may say that being generous and unselfish is burdensome. But Jesus says, to be generous, to be unselfish, to be merciful is a blessing. Jesus wants us to be merciful for he is merciful.
REFLECTION Saudara Terkasih, BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL, for their mercy will DRAW GOD'S FAVOR.
APPLICATION 1. In your view, are you a merciful kind of person? Why? 2. What is hindering you from giving what you have for God or for the needy? 3. Why do you need to be merciful and how can you do it?
TODAY'S PRAYER "Heavenly Father, I believe that You always bless me to be a blessing for Your glory. Fill me up more with Your Spirit. I'm willing to be Your tool for sharing the blessing so that Your Name is glorified through my mercy. In the name of Lord Jesus, I pray. Amen."
