Peace In The Midst Of Storm Keluarga Allah Daily Devotional August 30, 2017
TODAY'S FOOD FOR THE SOUL
Luke 8:22-25
TODAY'S RHEMA Luke 8:25 "Where is your faith?" He asked His disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, "Who is This? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him."
To become a peacemaker is one of the greatest challenges to every believer. When a problem only starts to arise on the surface, probably we can still keep the peace and try to calm everyone involved. But, when it gets worse and the people around make the situation even worse, then our heart will start to become chaotic too. The same thing also happened to the disciples of Jesus when they had time to sail together with their Lord. During that time, the storm was coming down to the lake where they sail. Seeing the storm almost turned everything apart, they lost their peace. And they did not calm each other as for how they should, but what they did was shouting to each other and it had made them even more panic. After Jesus had made the sea calm, the first thing He said His disciples was:"Why are you so afraid? Why do not you believe?"
Yes, why do not we believe, if God is with us, why do we become anxious so easily and so easily controlled by our fear rather than feeling the peace that God gives us? One thing that we should pay attention to, Mark 4:38 mentioned that Jesus was asleep at the stern of the ship. In a ship structure, stern is a very important part of the ship. There is where the control of the ship lies in. From there, the captain will determine to which direction the ship will go among many choices of directions on a broad sea surface. That simply means that Jesus was in the correct spot of the ship. When we often think that the Lord is asleep even in our struggles in a "storm", there is not a second He lets go His responsibility as the "Captain" for our life. No matter how great the storm is, He will not let us be drowned alone on our own efforts.
Whatever happens, just be calm and have faith. Do not look at the big waves of the storm that hit us. There is no need to be carried on in panic. Look unto Jesus and hold on. When we stop to take the control of our lives and just surrender to Him as our "Captain", His peace shall flow to our hearts abundantly. Just as our faith also grows, the peace in our hearts will also shine through our actions and words. So wherever and whenever we are, God can use us to bring peace, courage, calmness, recovery and also a unity to take place.
REFLECTION Saudara Terkasih, A KEY to SOLEMN PEACE when the great storm arises is YOUR FAITH IN GOD.
APPLICATION 1. Why does your faith affect your peace? 2. Why do you need to maintain peace no matter what happens in your life? 3. How can you keep the peace that God gives within your heart?
TODAY'S PRAYER "Father God, no matter how chaotic my life is, I believe that You are the One who has the control. Fill my heart with Your peace, so I can reflect Your peace toward the people around us. In the name of Lord Jesus, I pray. Amen."
