TODAY'S FOOD FOR THE SOUL
Matthew 6:24-34
TODAY'S RHEMA Matthew 6:33 "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
God is not opposed to us to be wealthy. True Jesus indeed said, "Blessed are those who are poor in spirit, because they shall inherit the Kingdom of God" (Matthew 5:3), but it does not mean that we have to live "poorly" first to stand in front of God. In another translation, the phrase "poor in spirit" can be translated as "humble", "feeling powerless and having a need to rely only on God", or "know that they also have spiritual needs". In other words, this verse does not speak about the true physical condition, but about heart attitude.
Regarding this kind of heart attitude, we should take David as a good example. As a king of Israel, God blessed him with abundant wealth and power. But, David's heart and delight had never focused on those blessings. Indeed, when he almost lost everything – wealth, throne, and family unity, his heart still focused on God and his lips were still singing psalms. He completely realized that everything he owned was only gifts from God. No wonder that God always restored David's condition and multiplied his blessings. It did not stop there as God also strengthened his line to sit on king's throne forever because Lord Jesus was finally born on Davidic line.
Just as David, do we dare to "become poor in spirit before God"? Are we ready and willing to give all if God demands us our talents and wealth for the sake of His kingdom? There might be some concerns arising in our hearts, but, we should believe in His promises. Do not worry about our providence. Our Father in heaven knows exactly how to supply our needs. When our hearts are fixed to serve His purposes, then He will take care of us, and He will also give us an opportunity to witness all great wonders that He wants to do through our lives.
REFLECTION Saudara Terkasih, BEING POOR IN SPIRIT is about HEART ATTITUDE before God.
APPLICATION 1. What does it mean to become poor in spirit? 2. Have you lived poor in front of Him? Why? 3. What commitments can you make to be able to live poor before Him in spirit?
TODAY'S PRAYER "Father, too often I only focus on the visible things. I tend to forget that the most important thing is what my heart contains. Lead me, o God, so I can learn to live poor in front of You. In the Name of Lord Jesus, I pray. Amen."
