Nobody wants to be called 'weak'. And because of this, many are trying to be or to 'look' strong to overcome problems in lives. However, in the process, some people may use wrong methods. Like what Nabal, a very rich man whose wealth came from thousands of livestock that he owned, did. One day, King David sent ten young men to him and to ask him to give them whatever comes from his hand because they had taken care of his shepherds previously. But, Nabal acted like he didn't know King David. Though he mentioned that David was the son of Jesse. At that time, what he did was not only showing that he was ungrateful but he also mocked David. Not surprised if David felt so hurt and angry. He had planned to kill Nabal.
But, Abigail, the wife of Nabal, acted so differently from her husband. She immediately came to David with all the stuff she wanted to give him. Abigail fell on her face before David and asked him to give her time to speak. Her speech was so gentle that David's heart finds comfort and his anger subsided. She didn't only succeed in saving her family, she also honored David.
When we speak with others, we have to keep in mind the difference between being honest and being thoughtless. We have to mind the difference between being stern and being harsh/violence. Because it is not in violence but in gentleness lays our strength. Be gentle and we will see the great work of God showed in our lives and through our lives, serenity, peace, and even revival will take place, wherever we are.
REFLECTION Saudara Terkasih, BEING HARSH leads to DESTRUCTION, while, BEING GENTLE can RESTORE ANY SITUATION and BRING SALVATION.
APPLICATION 1. Notice the difference between Nabal's attitude and Abigail's. Which do portray in dealing with people? 2. Why do you have to portray gentleness of heart? 3. How can you remain gentle in all kind of situation?
TODAY'S PRAYER "Abba Father, please forgive me if I still have a hard heart. Give me a new heart, the gentle and pleasant one that you can use for your glory. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen."
