"Who gave permission to Vania to sing 'Amazing Grace' for this event?" protested a committee member of a Gala Dinner at the church of a small town. "Vania cannot sing well, and as far as I know, she's not a religious person!" Several people who were Vania's schoolmates mumbled in agreement. They still remembered that years ago, Vania would always doze through the sermon and was caught red-handed using illegal drugs, so her parents finally sent her to a school out of town. Nonetheless, the head of the committee spoke, "I let Vania be involved. Sometimes ago Vania came back home, and I invited her to join a cell group. I'll let you all see how much she has changed."
The event soon began. The participants went up the stage to perform one after another. And then it was Vania's turn to sing. Many of her notes were off-key; her melody was flat. Nevertheless, no one criticized the performance. There was something different that radiated through her song. There was a deep, holy atmosphere that came upon them from Vania's rendition. When Vania finished, almost everyone was in tears. Not long after, they were clapping and people were shouting praises to God. Everyone sensed Vania's passion for God.
The heart can only be touched by another heart. When we enter David's tent, enter with an open heart, ready to be filled. God cares more about the condition of our heart than our songs of praise and worship. A worshipping heart invites Him to reign in their lives. And when God comes, He works on every person's heart. The broken heart will be mended; the weak heart will be made strong, the heavy heart will be lightened. REFLECTION Saudara Terkasih, WORSHIP is not about the techniques, but about the HEART. It is not about hitting the right note, but about the right condition of the heart. APPLICATIONS 1. What is the condition of your heart when you offer praises and worship? 2. Why does God look at the heart instead of the voice singing? 3. How can you maintain the right heart condition, when you come before the Lord? TODAY'S PRAYER "Father, I give thanks because You are a God who looks on the intent of the heart, not the perfect-pitch voice. Shape my heart. I want to have a worshipping heart, so my pure praise and worship will bring delight to Your ears. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen."
