TODAY'S FOOD FOR THE SOUL

James 5:12-20

TODAY'S RHEMA
James 5:17 "Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years."

It was almost 11 pm when two mothers left a parent-teacher meeting in their children's school about 40 kilometers away from their homes. On their way, they saw three young men ran in the opposite way laughing at the top of their lungs but these two mothers didn't suspect anything odd. To save time, these two mothers took a shortcut they took before. After 40 minute driving, they realized that they were lost. The worse thing was the front light of the car died so did the engine. "Shall we walk and call for help?" said the mother who drove the car, but the other mother said, "Let us pray, for now". They prayed together fervently, "Guide us to your help Lord," that was their prayer.

Both mothers were out of the car and walked some distance to the intersection and saw the light from distance which came from a small home. They knocked the door of the house and a man came out of the door. They told him about their trouble. After having listened about their problem he then said, "Wow! I am a mechanic. I'll try to see what's wrong with your car." He took a look at the car and said, "Someone had changed your car battery into golf cart battery. It may sound strange to you but I just brought home a new battery from my other workshop. I can put it in your car if you want!" Not long after that, the car was repaired and ready for use. God's help didn't just stop there but there was more to come to their surprise. The mechanic's friends who were visiting him at that time came from the same city as the two mothers did so that they tagged them along as they went home for a safer journey.

In the Bible, we can read the story of Elijah when he prayed with all of his heart to God asking a great request to stop the rain for three and half years. Elijah knew that his request was kind of bizarre and no other but God who could grant it, he put his hope solely on Him. The earnest prayer of Elijah drew God's unlimited power and authority. God granted the "super request". The need of the lost mother in the story before was a help from God. When they prayed earnestly, they received more than they asked for, their car was repaired and they could go home in a city easily.

Our prayers to God should also be like that. Our God is God who cares for us. Every prayer is important to Him, even though it may seem petty in man's sight. When we pray earnestly, God will listen and answer our prayers. More than that, our devoted heart in prayer draws His heart closer to us and by that, He will empower us to do incredible things He has plan for us. Amen.
