An elderly mother and her son visited a dental clinic to get herself dentures because she has no more teeth. The dentist offered good quality dentures, but she refused. She insisted on getting the cheapest dentures. While the dentist tried so hard to persuade her to get the best dentures for quality reason, her seemingly well-to-do son was busy with his smartphone. Finally, the dentist gave in to the elderly lady's strong will. With her trembling hands, she took out some money wrapped in layers of cloth for a down payment. Unexpectedly, a moments later her son approached the dentist and said, "Please make the best porcelain teeth for my mom. No matter the cost, I will pay for it. But please, keep it from my mother because she would say that I am spending too much for teeth. My mom is a type of person who tries to not burden her children though we've never thought of her being a burden to us."
The love of parents is remarkable. When we're small, they do anything for us. They try to provide the best for their children. However, when children are growing up to be adults, it is only right for children to give the best to their parents, but some parents, wouldn't want to be a burden for their children as well. Maybe not all parents are perfectly good. However, the illustration above reminds us of how a child should treat his parents.
As children, it is only natural that we try to lighten the burden of parents in their old age. When they need help, whether or not they ask for help, do not see it as a burden, but an opportunity. Remember, God looks at our deeds and does not forget about them. When we please our parents, God is well pleased. He will not only make available amazing grace for the present, but God will make our joy overflow and we ourselves will be happy in our old age.
