Despite a bad or good relationship with any family member, the family is still something you will treasure the most. This statement defines Rahab, a harlot from the city of Jericho. The Bible does not state exactly Rahab's relationship with her family. However, you can imagine the treatment she received from her family as the consequences of her behavior. They probably mocked her and treated her badly. When Rahab met the two scouts whom Joshua sent, she found that helping them was the chance to save her whole family. She did not hold any grudges against her family, as she believed that helping the scouts to escape was a turning point for her family. Hence, all of her family members and relatives were saved when Jericho was conquered by Israel. Not only that, she and her family received new lives as God's people (Joshua 6:23, 25). In just a night, Rahab turned from the shame of the family into a guardian of the family.
From Rahab's story, God's message is that no matter who you are and your background, He has given you a calling to guard your family, and even your city and nation. As the guardian, you cannot doze nor fall asleep. You might be successful in your career or ministry, but when you lose your family member in eternity, all your gains would become a loss.
Remember, you cannot bring all your achievements to heaven, but you can live together with your family in the Father's House. It is not a coincidence that God saved you first. Through your life, God longs to see all of your family members become a part of a great harvest of souls to be fulfilled this year.
REFLECTION Saudara Terkasih, God has called you to be a guardian of your family, therefore, strive to make them part of God's people.
