Marriage is certainly expected when two are in a serious relationship, to live in such happy marriage with your partner. However, more than what we want in our marriage, we must first know that God has a divine purpose for every marriage (Genesis 1:28). Thus, marriage is not just a bond between two human beings, but a covenant involving God. Before deciding to get married, it would be good if you begin to remove the possibilities that may hamper the fulfillment of God's plan. Make sure the prospective partner is aligned with you; especially in faith, holiness, and finance matter. Because disagreements with spouses in these things can trigger unnecessary quarrels in married life.
The first and foremost thing, seek a spouse who fears the Lord. Because imbalance couple can invite many obstacles and struggles in the marriage life (2 Corinthians 6:14). Then, make a commitment with our spouse to have holiness before and after marriage. We have to maintain honor and wisdom in establishing relationships, especially with those with opposite sex status. It has to be clear and firm where we stand before the marriage. And one thing that is also important, that we have to talk about finance for the family, it is advisable to talk and to agree on it before we step forward to marry someone. Do not underestimate the importance of good financial agreement between husband and wife, because this has been a motivator of divorce so many times in so many families.
Yes, starting a marriage life should not be motivated only by the power of love. Do not close our eyes on some important subjects and be surprised after we get married. It is better to open our eyes widely starting from pre-wedding moments. Remember, to compromise early usually will lead to greater regret afterward. In the end, clear and fine conversations towards agreement or unity in vision can become the main strength to undergo a happy and a blessed marriage later on.
