From the eyes down to the heart, no one can deny the beauty of falling in love. However, marriage is not a fairy tale or romantic movie, where men and women meet and fall in love at first sight. Perhaps we think, the ecstasy of and emotions attached to being love struck is sufficient for a lifelong marriage. However, just like stock, no matter how much we have, one day it will run out too. At one point, the so-called "honeymoon" will end, both eyes will be wide open and we may feel as though we live with a stranger. Continuous conflict as a result not only damages the relationship between husband and wife, but children will also become victims. Efforts to improve the situation may prove abortive also.
The above pattern is also seen in Christian marriages. But the good news is that we live by faith, not the fact that it is happening, let alone the feeling (2 Corinthians 5: 7). Feelings and emotions should not dictate how we go about our marriage. It is only the Word of God that should guide and illuminate our paths (Psalm 119:105).
Today's rhema also reminds us to put on (wear as a cloth) love. "Wear", not "feel". This suggests an attempt to seek love. Because, true love is not just about feeling, but action. After all, God created us with the capacity to love. No one needs to teach us how to fall in love. What we need to learn is how to fall in love again and again with the same person, every day. Believe me, when we obey His word, God Himself will work in us. First, He will provide comfort, restoration, and strength. Then through the display of love, the heart of our spouse will soften and become changed. Then that which seems impossible will be possible. Love and happiness will again blossom, and the family will be refreshed again.
