TODAY'S RHEMA Job 3:25 "For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, And what I dreaded has happened to me."
"The rapid-flowing current thrilled me," said someone who experienced rafting for the first time. He continued his story about his journey in water-rafting. "We go down from the hill to the river, weariness and fear made me tremble", he said. He also made mention of the fast current, big rocky river and feared the boat would capsize and they all would drown. Those negative thoughts bothered him so much that he couldn't enjoy the adventure. However, during the briefing, the guide asked the group to savor the beauty of the environment: clear water, green hills, beautiful rocky river and blue sky. These thoughts allayed their worries and fear. Before commencing their adventure, the guide said: "These wonderful views will be seen along the river, so focus on them to dispel your fear!"
The fear of the man in the story above can't be compared to Job's fear. What scared Job (his children and livestock health) became a reality as contained in our daily devotional today. From those 2 examples, we can understand how fear greatly influences our thought and it's able to enter our heart when we keep thinking about it. We need to understand that our thoughts play an important role in determining the level of our spiritual hunger. What we ponder and imagine continuously, will enter into our hearts and become part of our lives.
If the tour guide suggested to the group to fill their mind with the thoughts of how beautiful the scenery was, we can also do the same by filling our mind with the Word of God in going through the turbulent waves of life. Fear may not always be avoided but the Word of God will strengthen and enable us to face it. We must consciously fill our heart with the Word of God day and night so that it can be manifested in our lives.
REFLECTION Saudara Terkasih, Be careful about what gets your ATTENTION, because your THOUGHTS determine THE LEVEL OF YOUR SPIRITUAL HUNGER.
APPLICATIONS 1. In a time of hardship, what do you focus on? 2. Why is it important to meditate on the Word of God day and night? 3. What must you do to make the Word of God the focus of attention?
TODAY'S PRAYER "God, help me to meditate on Your Word day and night which will strengthen and relieve me when fear comes my way. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen."
