Negative Things Steal God's Favor Keluarga Allah Daily Devotional January 16, 2017
TODAY'S FOOD FOR THE SOUL Colossians 3: 5-10
TODAY'S RHEMA Colossians 3:8 "But now you must also rid yourselves of all such thing as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips."
A teacher gave an assignment to the student to bring a bag of potatoes to school. On each potato, they had to write down or stick a note about something they dislike, for example: 1. Name of someone they hated, 2. An upsetting occasion, or any other negative things. Thus, the more negative things they have, the more potatoes they have to bring to school. The next morning, the students brought their potatoes. Some of them brought five, eight and even more than ten potatoes. The teacher then ordered them to carry that plastic bags with potatoes inside wherever they went, even to the toilet. It lasted for a week. Days went by, the potatoes decayed. It was so stinky. As the result, they couldn't concentrate while studying, they lost their appetite and got sleepless at night. When the teacher brought chocolate cakes to share with the students some days later, they couldn't enjoy its delicious taste.
After a week, students threw away those stink potatoes overjoyed. Paying attention to their reaction, that teacher explained: "Likewise it happens if we don't want to get rid of hatred, sin, worry and disappointment. Whether or not we realize it, we will spend most of our energy and attention towards negative things. This condition causes drawbacks for us: we neither enjoy many blessings nor do our duties and responsibilities maximally. We may lose many beautiful things that should have been ours. You only carry those stinky potatoes for a week, what will happen if you carry them for years? Can you imagine how many beautiful things, good opportunities and wonderful blessings that you let to go by your hands?"
The story above portrays your life if you still keep disappointment, malice, past trauma and anger in your heart. When you keep them for a long period of time, they will decay. These things will seize the grace that God has prepared to be poured upon you. If it is so hard to overcome those negative things in your life, pray and ask God to enable you. Be ready to experience the abundance of God's favor in your life. Praise the Lord!
