The Tongue Has The Power of Life and Death Keluarga Allah Daily Devotional January 24, 2017
TODAY'S FOOD FOR THE SOUL Proverbs 18:7-21
TODAY'S RHEMA Proverbs 18:21 "The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit."
Our lives are determined by what we envision and what we say. By the end of 1700's, the churches in England were not interested in spreading the gospel to all nations around the world, until a young cobbler named William Carey was successful in his mission trips to India. This became a strong motivation for the churches to do a similar thing in the following years afterward. In his sermons, William always recommended the audiences "to expect great things from God, and to work great things for God." He gave an example of this topic by his own effort as he had to spend seven long years in India before being able to win a single person for God. In doing this, he had so many obstacles locally, including culture clash as a primary one. Fortunately, by God's grace, Carey's never-ending efforts were finally fruitful in the end. He managed to build hundreds of churches, 19 mission centers, 100 schools and 1 university. His published works in India were also ahead in terms of achievement, he had translated the Bible in 44 Indian local dialects, established a bible printing center and a newspaper production.
William Carey did not allow his destiny to limit himself. He kept doing his job faithfully even though it looked impossible to succeed. His determination had made him one of many God's great workers in the history of evangelism. Carey's ministry in India had reshaped the social life of Indian people and also had inspired some people in England to do similar thing in other nations. No wonder he is called as "the father of modern mission."
How does the story above relate to us? If right now we are still struggling in our efforts and what we do seem to be failures all the time, and sometimes people laugh at us because of our big dreams that we are working on, then we should not give up easily now. Start being positive in all things and fill your mind with great things that God has for us. Let all those good things produce real actions that shall move God's favor. Sooner or later, our fate will start to change as we keep ourselves positive.
REFLECTION Saudara Terkasih, watch your words and thought as they could transform your life accordingly.
APPLICATION
Have you watched out your words and your mind these days?
Try to ponder the bad and good things that ever happened in your life. Are they the things that you spent the time to think about for several or many times previously?
How and when will you make a commitment to guard your words and mind in front of God?
TODAY'S PRAYER "Thank You, God, because You are such a good God. Help me so I can guard my tongue, heart, and mind and keep them clean and pleasing in Your sight. In the name of Lord Jesus, I pray. Amen."
