TODAY'S FOOD FOR THE SOUL Malachi 3:6-12
TODAY'S RHEMA
Malachi 3:8 "Will a mere total rob God? Yet you rob me. "But you ask, 'How are we robbing you?' "In tithes and offerings."
A pastor of a small church in Minnesota was delivering a sermon about being free from debt. One of his congregation was very excited to attend the service. When the pastor said that God has the power to free people from debt, the man shouted "Amen!" loudly. However, when the pastor talked about giving tithing, he was silent. "I'll do it later, Lord.", he thought "when all my debts are paid off." Since he thought that it was so difficult for him to fulfill the daily needs, it must also be difficult to allocate money to give back the tenth percent belongs to God.
Few days later, he read a Christian magazine and got interested to read a story which mentioned a toothpaste brand called Colgate. It was a biography of a young guy named William Colgate who lived 200 years ago. He read about Colgate's failure and success, and also Colgate's love for God. At first, he didn't feel anything reading the article, but when he found the statement about giving tithe and how God opened the heavenly sky, fulfilled his promises, and poured his blessings to Colgate, he was amazed. The story of Colgate showed that the more he gave thanks to God, the merrier God blessed him.
If we read and ponder the life of William Colgate, according to the world's perspective, God's way may seem unreasonable. But, try to change your point of view, see God's plan through spiritual eyes. When you tithe, in spiritual realm, you are blocking the chance of the destroying locusts to destroy your finance. The bronze sky over your head will be destroyed and you will under the open sky. However, if you do not obey God's word, don't expect God to set you free from debt. Don't tell God that you will give tithe once your debt is free. That is not God's way. Your disobedience will not delight Him. It will also limit you from making righteous decisions for your financial life. Make God the priority in everything you do, even in your financial management and witness God's favor poured down on you.
REFLECTION Saudara Terkasih, the best time to start give tithe is when we have debt, for it determines our righteous financial position before God.
