Have an Obedient Heart Keluarga Allah Daily Devotional August 24, 2016
TODAY'S FOOD FOR THE SOUL Galatians 5:16-26
TODAY'S RHEMA Galatians 5:16 "So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh."
Just like our habits would shape us into a certain form of life, so does obedience. Before knowing Christ, we have the tendency to things for our own interest/advantages. All of the habits we usually do in our daily basis are instilled in our hearts and mind which will affect our way of thinking. When we are exposed to some choices, we tend to choose something we usually do in our life; which is to submit to the will of the flesh. Whether or not we please God is measured from the obedience of our heart.
However, don't be discouraged, don't lose heart. The renewing process to have an obedient heart doesn't happen automatically but it takes time. It is a process where the Holy Spirit is involved in our daily basis. We as a human being will never be 100% "flesh will-free", therefore we need the Holy Spirit to help us developing the new habits which is to do the will of the Spirit. Thus, we need to learn to submit the control of our lives to the Holy Spirit. Let Him work and mold our heart because the Holy Spirit is sent by God as a helper in our lives.
Probably in the process of developing an obedience heart, we may fail, but still, don't give up. No matter how many times we fall, get up, repent and re-submit our lives under the control of the Holy Spirit. We ought to train ourselves to resist the desire of the flesh. Stay faithful to walk in the process that God is doing in our lives right now. Learn to be faithful in a small matter that God has and is about to be entrusted with our lives. Build a commitment every day to obey. If we are accustomed to submitting our lives ¬under His control, then it leads to a life-changing experience and in the long run, we will have an obedient and fruitful heart and it brings glory to His name.
REFLECTION Saudara Terkasih, Say NO to the desire of the flesh and YES to the desire of spirit so that we could have an obedient heart before the Lord.
APPLICATION
In your opinion, what is meant by obedience?
Do you tend to obey God or obey your desire of flesh along these times? Why do you do that?
What commitments will you make to learn developing obedience in your life?
TODAY'S PRAYER
"O Lord God, please forgive me if I haven't had an obedient heart. Even though I often time fail, I still long to live in obedience. Help me, Holy Spirit, by reminding me if I still obey the desire of the flesh so that we could refuse to do things which displease You. Let me from now on live in obedience to the desire of the spirit. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen."
