TODAY'S FOOD FOR THE SOUL Matthew 6:5-13
TODAY'S RHEMA
Matthew 6:11 "Give us today our daily bread."
After the Israelites exodus from Egypt, they came to the Desert of Sin. In that desert, the people were grumbling against Moses about food. God then sent them bread and quails. He commanded them to gather enough food each day. However, some of the Israelites breached the command of God by gathered much more that what he had said. They were greedy. God was displeased by their greediness. It was not because of the amount of food but because God knew that to overly eat will lead them to many health disadvantages.
We surely know that there is many kinds of food will cause us to gain weight when we consume it too much. They may lead to some diseases like diabetes, indigestion, breathlessness, heart disease, cholesterol, stroke, cancer, even disorders of psychological and intelligence development. These might be one of the reasons why God wants us to eat in moderation.
Bible also says about eating habits. It is written in Proverbs 25:16 "If you find honey, eat just enough—too much of it, and you will vomit." For thousand years, honey is known for its many advantages. Not only for consuming as food, but it is also used for medicine and beauty treatment. Despite the benefits, consuming honey too much will give you side effect. The fructose of it can hinder our intestine in absorbing nutrition which will mess up your digestive system.
Jesus teaches us in Lord's Prayer to ask bread daily. This is what we need to do, follow the instruction of the Word of God. Eat enough, do not too much. By eating enough portion which consists enough nutrition, the need of our body will be fulfilled and we will always be healthy.
REFLECTION Saudara Terkasih, God teaches us to EAT in moderation because it is not good for us to overly eat.
APPLICATION
Examine your eating habits. Do you eat enough?
Why is God not pleased if we eat too much?
What commitment will you make to manage your eating portion?
TODAY'S PRAYER "My Lord, I want to learn to manage my eating habits. Teach me to control my appetite and give as the daily bread. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen."
